Solution

The three lines on the world map hop between countries for which the first letters spell out "enjamin ranklin arkway", which is a reference to Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia. If viewing the street on a map, one can see that the helm in the second image looks similar to the roundabout in Logan Square in the middle of the parkway. This street has flags from the countries along its sides, and the line in the second image shows hops between some of these flags. By identifying the countries and taking their second letters (hinted by the missing first letters in step one), one arrives at the solution: oarlop.
